Ingredients

  • 1 pound fresh asparagus trimmed
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 teaspoons grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon lemon zest optional
  • Lemon wedges for serving

Equipment

  • 1 Air Fryer 4–6 quart capacity works well
  • 1 Mixing Bowl For seasoning the asparagus
  • 1 Measuring Spoons For oil and seasonings
  • 1 Tongs To arrange and remove asparagus

Method

  1. Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for 3 minutes if your model recommends preheating.Wash and trim the tough ends from the asparagus.Place the asparagus in a mixing bowl and toss with olive oil, garlic powder, salt, black pepper, and Parmesan cheese.Arrange the asparagus in a single layer in the air fryer basket.Air fry at 400°F (200°C) for 6–8 minutes, depending on the thickness of the asparagus, shaking the basket halfway through.Remove from the air fryer and let rest for 2 minutes.Sprinkle with lemon zest if desired and serve immediately with lemon wedges.

Notes

  • Thin asparagus cooks in about 6 minutes; thick spears may need 8–9 minutes.
  • Don't overcrowd the basket.
  • Freshly grated Parmesan melts and browns better than pre-shredded cheese.
  • Add red pepper flakes for a little heat.
  • Best served immediately.
Choose asparagus spears of similar thickness so they cook evenly in the air fryer.
